1) Not the main character
2) VERY well known novel / story.
3) Least important character but, ironically, the very cause of the story.
4) Character is a modern day iconic figure.
THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX .... this is a fun character to guess, and an unusual one.

1) The novel is not too modern but not ancient either. Over 100 years old.
2) Not Gollum but you're in the neighborhood. Gollum had a much bigger part than my character though.
EDIT: After rereading my initial clues I find that your guess was a very logical answer.

Nope, not Tiny Tim ..... but upon reflection .... the story my character is from and A Christmas Carol have a very similar format.

You know something, I KNEW someone was going to ask that question and to tell the truth I do not know, but I think so.
It would be sort of like Gravy's last question about A Christmas Carol ... was "Death", Scrooge's last visitor, male or female? How could one answer that? Well, Death could be neither but my character is definitely one or the other.
EDIT: Actually, it was not Death but The Spirit Of Christmas Yet To Come, to be precise.
