My father introduced me to books. Though he never encouraged me to read, the materials he made available for me to choose from was enough encouragement. When I became a parent myself, I stocked the bookshelf with various reading materials for my kids. Now, my children and I discuss the books that we read. In fact, we have an ongoing reading challenge that has started on 1 November and ends on 31 December. We are supposed to read 20 books in 2 months. I'm sure I'm not going to win but I'm very happy we have this challenge.

That is very cool kimmyschemy! That is a very ambitious reading goal, I like that!

I read with my teenagers a couple hours a week. We enjoy sharing a good book and often discuss it between reading times.

I remember as a child seeing my mom read often. She still reads a lot and always has great book suggestions for me. I am trying to make my children be book lovers reading to them before nap and bed. I am lucky because they seem to enjoy it as much as I do. As for The Golden Girls, when I was in college (2000), my roommates and I watched it all the time. We even decided which one of us was each Golden Girl. Me being Rose. Kind of fun how many people love The Golden Girls.

My mother. I grew up watching her read. She'd come home from a job she hated and pick up a book. It was her therapy, before bed she'd have a smile on her face. Being taken away somewhere different each day and being inspired in life was what she needed. Hearing how sometimes things can be different and having hope, that's priceless to so many people.

My great papa and aunt shell taught me how to read, they are the only reason I love reading so much! Reading to children definitely has an impact on the type of reader they will become.

No one really likes to read in my family. But my mum loved to read when she was a kid and one of my close cousins share book recommendations here and there.

My mom has loved books for her entire life. She is the one that really inspired me to read. I watch her blow through books in like a day. I feel like she's read every book in existence and I hope to be just like her when I'm retired. I started reading to my son before he was even born and so far he seems to still enjoy it at 10. Sometimes we read together on the couch, when he isn't preoccupied with his iPad. I want to be able to read the high school books with him eventually :)

My father very much inspired me to read. He would practice reading with me every night up until I was eight years old. He would also read some age-appropriate booklets with me during the summer, when I was at home a lot. :D
