Twenty-year-old Della Hughes was brought up to live a comfortable life in the luxury offered by Boston society. Despite being an orphan, her uncle, retired General Clint Logan, has ensured she grew up loved and well cared for. But even her beloved uncle has not been able to tame the strong will that resides in Della’s wild heart.

With Logan’s decision to move his breeding stock out west to his claim in the Colorado territory, Della sees the opportunity for the adventure of a lifetime. Accustomed to having a maid to help with all her daily activities, Della may not be suited to the rugged living of the West. Shane Hunter, the handsome scout hired to lead the wagon train, would prefer she stay put in her cozy tea room, but Della is determined to prove that she is capable of taking care of herself.

Captain Quentin Asher of the cavalry escort, on the other hand, is more than happy to have the beautiful Della along for the trip. He is confident that he can win her heart and secure her hand in marriage. With the threat of horse rustlers and hostile Indians along the way, will Della prove to be a distraction for the eligible men in the ranks? Will Della win the heart of the wild west and Shane Hunter, or will the restraints of society keep her comfortably attached to a life of luxury with Quentin Asher?

Wounded Heart, by Colleen Hall, is a historical fiction romance set in the 1870s. Fans of inspirational fiction in the vein of Janette Oke’s Women of the West series are sure to enjoy the strength of Della’s character as she faces the challenges of adjusting to life on the frontier.

I’d have to say I rather enjoyed Della’s character. She was charming and beautiful but very determined and willing to try new things. The men thought her too delicate to survive the harsh conditions of the wagon trail, but over time, she develops into a capable young woman. I loved that she still had her damsel in distress moments that allowed the beaux to show their chivalrous sides. I also loved the realistically different personalities that the men exhibited. Several of their behaviors evoked strong reactions, and I was proud of Della for speaking her mind and being herself despite her status as a well-brought-up woman of society.

It was Della’s fighting spirit that had me cheering for her happy ending through the whole book. I loved watching her combat the elusive and stubborn beau of her choice: no matter how many times he pushed her away, she kept believing there was a future for them. With an endearing support cast, Della was surrounded by people who kept an eye out for her and taught her lessons along the way. Through a whirlwind rising action, Della gains even more perspective before reaching the satisfying conclusion to her story.

Therefore, I gladly give Wounded Heart a 4 out of 4. With very few errors, I believe that the book was professionally edited. There were no profanities or erotic scenes in this clean romance novel. While the author includes Christian themes throughout the book, she was not pushy in this belief. Although a Christian audience may prefer these elements, I believe that those who enjoy historical fiction and innocent romance stories will appreciate this novel.

When I was younger I was into westerns, though mostly movies. Maybe they're not for me anymore, particularly if there's an important romantic element, but your review makes me feel nostalgic about this genre. Thank your for your review!

This book sounds like one that I would love to read. A combination of the old west and a woman trying to prove herself is a powerful draw for me, especially if there is romance in the mix. Your review makes the book enticing. Well done, my friend!

I love the way della’s personality is described the richness, the way her uncle took care of her and liked that she never gave up and always had a hope that they will have future together .
I think this is a clean romantic book, not a erotic one

Sometimes wild hearts just can't be tamed, but I'd take a chivalrous calvary escort any time! Sounds like a whirlwind western for sure. Great review!

A historical fiction that is set in 1870 and having a mix of romance and inspiration looks quite appealing. Moreover, Della's character was interesting because of her will power. Thanks for your fabulous review.
life is only knowing the unknown, we can do this by reading books easily- Online book club is a great place for this. This is what I believe.
