I have been reading since I was very little. It was stories like Tolkien's Lord of the Rings that probably sealed my fate for me when I was thirteen. After that reading has just been part of life.

James Hadley Chase. Creating my own imaginations about crimes was exhilarating.

Ironically, Dr. Seuss. I didn't have access to a lot of books growing up, but we did have a few Dr. Seuss books. I read those few books enough that I had them memorized word for word. He not only drew me into reading and getting lost in imagination but also story telling.

I guess it was Chetan Bhagat. I started reading his books while I was in school.

Tolkien. The Hobbit was the first book I read cover to cover. Since then, I've been hooked on collecting books. I need another shelf

Rudyard Kipling with his' The Jungle Book. I read it countless of times when I was in primary school. It was the only English book available at home that was not a textbook. That was of course until high school when realised that I could actually borrow any kind book from the school library.

I always like to read but the author that started my love for reading was Toni Morrison.

I've always enjoyed reading but I'd say it was George Orwell that really made me love reading. I think 1984 was the first story I read that really shocked me. I didn't read as much in uni, and then I picked up Animal Farm and found my love of reading again.

I was 6 years old and my mother took me to the public library where she picked out Heidi for me to read. Johanna Spyri was the author. I haven't stopped reading since.

S.E. Hinton and her book The Outsiders. I read it sometime in the late 1980s, it would've been 1988-1989 or thereabouts, but I remember it was the first time that a book actually moved me.

Ursula Le Guin - A Wizard of Earthsea. I can’t remember exactly how old I was when I picked it up (sometime in primary school) but it made me realise an entire world can exist in between the covers of a book.

I read The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster around the same time.

After those two books I wanted to read everything.

I have two. The first is J.K. Rowling, who I first read in 4th grade and who kick-started my intense love for reading and young-adult novels etc. And the second is Jane Austen, who catalyzed my love for classic English literature.

vblackstone wrote: 09 Aug 2016, 10:09 I can't remember a time when I didn't love to read. There are two books that stand out in my memory: On The Banks of Plum Creek by Laura Ingalls Wilder and Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. by Judy Blume. I think I read every book I could get my hands on by both authors. I haven't stopped reading since. I enjoy legal thrillers (ex. John Grisham), suspense/horror (ex. Stephen King, Dean Koontz), and historical romance (ex. Mary Balogh) the most but am not adverse to a good biography (loved the story of Ozzy Osbourne), general fiction, or reading for knowledge.
I had forgotten about Judy Blume. My youngest daughter loved her books and although she struggled with reading, she enjoyed those books.
