It's amazing that you had a military life. You probably could relate a lot more to Hank. In this world, I believe that you have to do whatever you have to do to survive. For Hank he had to lie to get a job.

As interesting as Hank's time in Holland during WWII sounds, especially since my grandfather was a little kid in Holland during WWII also, I'm actually more intrigued by his time in America afterward. Hank definitely seemed to have made the best of what he had once he got here (I especially love his trick with the Dutch diploma), and that sounds inspiring. Thank you for the helpful review.

I dont read memoirs, but I can definitely admire Hanks personally to never give up. He took a risk to come to america, but he found a way to persevere and I love that. Congratulations on BOTD.

I am glad the author achieved his dream and became a pilot after surviving the Nazi occupation of Holland during World War II. Fans of inspirational stories will enjoy this one, but I am not the target audience as I do not read memoirs. However, I am glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for the detailed review!

I have an aversion to the memoir genre, but I think I can enjoy reading this book because I like reading stories about World War II. This is an excellent review.
