I think the writer should use a more appealing character for a children's book and something more relatable, personally the story should have made the ferret finding his long lost friend a key factor.

I love ferrets, though I've had to content myself by playing with the pair belonging to a friend. (I'm afraid they wouldn't get along well with my cats. I agree with your comments about having photographs to accompany the illustrations. It's a wonderful idea for those children who have never seen a ferret.
