Thank you for this great review! How wonderful that the author herself is so young I also liked that characters clear some moments themselves not letting readers guess or make up reason. Must be a very good read for children!

I love that this book was written by a teenager. I think that your review shouldn't focus so much on ethnicity and race. Frankly, the author can write about whatever character she wants to write about. I understand that you want to see more people of color in literature, but this shouldn't effect how you rate this particular book. Anyway, I think that 3 out of 4 stars is a great score and based on other critiques of the books is adequate.

I love that this was written by a middle schooler. She has also given fairy tales a new twist I have not seen before. It's great that her father is helping her develop her writing ability and giving her the confidence to continue. Wonderful review!

Wow, you really entered in some deep waters with the racial issue . I agree with your point. I believe they (the daughter and the father) chose to create such a stereotypical character because this is what they are used to see as beautiful. And I agree that it is sad. Probably the daughter wanted the protagonist to look like this. But this is just speculation.
