You've summed the book up perfectly. I found this to be one of my favourite and most memorable reads of last year.

Even though I love reading crime and mystery stories, I am not interested in a story about guilt and redemption. However, I like the characters are well developed; plus, it is well edited. Fans of the genre will enjoy it. Thank you for the detailed review!

I am a medical student. And I think I can relate with the quality of decisions he takes. Being a doctor does that to you. It clouds your vision and makes you see a tunneled future involving just you and your success. I think such a book should be read by nonmedical men too.

Thanks for the review CatIn TheHat, now I know a little about the contents of the story. I am in total agreement with you, when you say that meeting new individuals enables an individual to discover what initially unknown to him or her. I have to say that our experiences at times enable us become better persons as we stroll towards the future.

Great review! I personally found McDowell too much of a dislikable character to redeem himself

The study of human nature through fiction or mystery and crime stories sound interesting. Thanks for your great review.

This book sure does get mixed reviews! I rated the book 1 out of 4 stars because I hated the writing style and found the main character to be so unlikeable. There were major inconsistencies in the storyline and large time gaps that went unexplained. Granted, I am a stickler on writing style, but even if the style had been more to my liking, the story just didn't interest me and I didn't care how it ended. Maybe one has to develop a taste for this author?!*

Thanks for your review. It seems Hiram McDowell's life is quite complicated. I think that there is nobody who wouldn't make mistakes in their life, so anyone of us is bounded to feel guilty at least once. However, as long as that we have the will to correct the wrong things we did, redemption is possible.
