Everlost by Neal Shusterman - amazing

Post by Jackie Holycross »

This book was one of the best I've read in awhile. The premise is that at the moment of death certain children don't make it through the tunnel to the light. They get bumped out into the land of Everlost. This is a place between death and life. They can see the living world but not interact with it. Certain places and items are also sent to the land of Everlost. For instance, the twin towers still stand there. One of the souls who lives in the towers is a self-proclaimed leader who gathers lost souls and teaches them how to survive. However, her motives are not pure and it becomes clear that her way is not the only or the best way.

I love how this author hides seemingly unimportant details early in the book that become crucial to the plot later. It is actually pretty complex. The characters are well done and the plot is far from predictable. I am looking forward to jumping into the second book of the sequel

I'm loving it already.... Can't wait to know what's next because I'm still wondering what kind of things are being sent to the lost souls

That's actually a pretty novel idea.

Ooh, I always love when seemingly unimportant points have that glossed over introduction and then BAM! - you're slapped with the mother of all surprises and you can't wait to read more. Honestly, finding awesome books these days is such a trial.
And in the end, we were all just humans... Drunk on the idea that love, only love, could heal our brokenness.

You've convinced me. I just checked it out of my library. I'll be starting this as soon as I finish the one I'm currently reading. Thanks for the suggestion!

I've read the whole series, and I can tell you that you won't be disappointed! The Skinjacker trilogy is truly captivating. All three books are intertwined with each other, making it satisfying when you read through it all and finally reach the end.
