Romance Genre Discussion

Post by Heidi M Simone »

When thinking about the romance genre, there's usually a love story where a couple may have some sort of struggle to keep the relationship going. Typically, there is also an emotionally satisfying ending.

As for many genres, romance may include other subgenres. It can also range from sweet/puppy love to erotic/sensual romance.

As we kick off this month of romance-based books, share what book you read.
- Were there other genre/subgenres included? What were they?
- Share what type of romance was included.
- Would you recommend this to others?

Just purchased The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang! Very excited as this has gotten a lot of buzz and I don’t read romance often.

Will post my thoughts when finished! :)

I recently finished Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor and it was awesome! It was definitely a romance, young adult, and fantasy read. This is the type of romance that I really enjoy - it was more sweet than anything else. At some points, it reminded me of my first love (with my now husband). :) It's been a while since I've read a book with sweet romance that I found myself attached to the main characters, Karou and Akiva, fairly quickly.

This has an angels and demons feel with some magic (including interesting magic done with teeth!), so definitely paranormal lovers would enjoy this one. However, since it does have romance, I would suggest it to those who enjoy sweet romance-based novels. I gave it a 4 out of 4 stars[/i]!

Daughter of Smoke & Bone is on my reading list. Isn't it part of a series? Thank you for reminding me of it. :)

Yep! It's a trilogy. I started the second one, Days of Blood & Starlight, yesterday actually. You're welcome :D
