Faust

Post by ffame80 »

I currently just began reading the play Faust by Goethe. It has been awhile since I've read a play in poetic form. I wasn't sure I'd like it, but as I read aloud to myself I found myself interested in the content. Faust meets the devil in the name of Mephistopheles who is cunning and full of himself. As of now, he is taking Faust out from his home onto the town to see a different side of life outside of his study. Along the way, Mephistopheles makes deals with others while I believe he is entertaining Faust into doing the same.

I haven't read this one by Goethe, but I have read "Doctor Faustus" by Christopher Marlowe.

Is this about the real legend of a german magician and sorcerer who evoke demons into physical form so he can get all what he desires? there is even a grimoire or book on how to evoke Mephistopheles and the other demons.

Faust is a must read book of classic European literature. Maybe the most important book of the Romantic Period. I have to re-read it ASAP.
Heart! We will forget him!
You an I, tonight!
You may forget the warmth he gave,
I will forget the light.

When you have done, pray tell me
That I my thoughts may dim;
Haste! lest while you're lagging.
I may remember him!
