Do you have a song, that helps you through a tough time?

This is the place for readers of poetry. Discuss poetry and literary art. You can also discuss music here, including lyrics. Also, you can discuss poets themselves, in addition to poetry.

It might sound odd, but songs don't help me through tough times. I find myself connected more spiritually to find myself again hence I read my bible and take a deep breathe

To get myself out of depression, most of the songs that help me are gospel songs, or even some rocks. However I can't just pick any of them.

It's not a particular song for me but rather a genre. When I am having a hard time I always like to listen to Jazz. The genre came from a time when nothing could ever be wrong. You could be hurting but you couldn't show it. The society that jazz came out of, I rather despise. However, I listen to it when I am having a hard time because it does remind me that things will get better. The message that I take away from jazz is that no matter what situation you are in, there are solutions and it shows me that there is always something to smile about. I do not use it to repress the emotions, but it allows me to step back and realize that whatever might be the problem, it is not as bad as it may seem.

When I'm going through a tough time, I don't go looking for a song that'll help me. Instead I'll listen to songs that will distract me or songs that I relate with at that moment. Right now it's Afterglow by Taylor Swift. If you need one to cheer you up, I suggest listening to I Feel Good by Thomas Rhett. :D

greywalker wrote: 11 Jan 2017, 10:04 Nickelback's song, "Lullaby" is the one I listen to when my depression grabs me too tightly. And when I'm just feeling depressed no matter what I do, I listen to Third Day's Grace's songs "Painkiller," "So What," "Fallen Angel," and "Tell Me Why." Somehow, depressing songs can help my depression.
Lullaby is everything. I never get tired of it. It's very satisfying yet not too depressing.
