translated poetry, good or bad?

Post by usef nahg »

Poetry when written in a language will definitely not be the same after translation, but do you still think its worth reading? as Anne Michaels says 'Reading a poem in translation is like kissing a woman through a veil.'

I think something may be lost in the translationof of a poem from one language to another. The flow of the poem may be affected. However, it is necessary for poems to be translated into another language so that people from another language group can appreciate them.

Translated poetry is inclusive and allows other people who speak different languages to enjoy it.

In terms of keeping the original meaning of the poem, translated poems fairly do that. However, the poem might lose stylistic devices that were present in the original poem, such as rhyme and alliteration.

Translated poems lose the tone, emotions, and touch of the original. They, therefore, lose their effective message.

I just think translating a piece can be taxing. It completely altered the main aroma of the art. It. It forfeits the tone, the rhyme if it has, and simply the totality of the piece

Translated poetries are good. Specially to people who are having a hard time understanding deep meaning in poetries. This would help them appreciate and love the true essence of poetry.

If it makes the reader understand the poem, then i think the poet would be glad to know.

Poetry is all about words and translated words can not be as good as the original.

Though it helps you to read poems in languages you don't comprehend, they lose some touch and don't feel as good as the original. I agree with this.

If it makes the reader understand, then great. However, I stand by saying that translated words could never be the same as the original; I speak 6 languages and I still have difficulty making sure that the essence of the originals are there when I have to explain it to friends.

I tried reading translated Shakespeare, but I couldn't understand almost anything and I barely finished 3 pages.

I think that if you read a translates poem, you don't quite get the magic the author wants to send you. Something may get lost during translation.
