Circling Turtle wrote:I've never even heard of Sleeping at Last! They sound pretty good, I'll have to check them out. I was thinking of what the original post on this thread said about your favourite line from one of your own songs... It was difficult for me because I don't always like to put my songs out there, but here's a line from my song Red Leaves which I'm quite fond of:

Secrets too sweet to keep
Another promise that I had to eat

Mainly because its so fun to sing, rather than any poetic qualities :)
Sleeping at Last really have some great songs, I hope you enjoy them! I was listening to I'll Keep You Safe earlier today and I really liked the lines:
You’ll be an architect so pull up your sleeves
And build a new silhouette
In the skylines up ahead
& those lines from your song are absolutely lovely!

"Those three words are said too much, but not enough"
-Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol

I can see the truth in that line. It just makes sense.

I love the ending of a Tears For Fears song:

"When life begins with needles and pins, it ends with swords and knives. God save those born to die."

I heard one a while back that I got a kick out of. It was from Last Of The Summer Wine TV show. "Women are funny, from the front anyway." -Norman Clegg
"I planted some birdseed. A bird came up. Now I dont know what to feed it." Ramblings of a retired senile mind.

Currently, I have a great affinity for two very different kind of lyrics:

"We keep this love in a photograph
We made these memories for ourselves
Where our eyes are never closing
Hearts are never broken
Times forever frozen still"
-Photograph by Ed Sheeran

"Don't waste your time on me.
You're already the voice inside my head.
(I miss you, miss you)"
-I Miss You by Blink182

Just gonna stand there and watch me burn
But that's alright because I like the way it hurts
Just gonna stand there and hear me cry
But that's alright because I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie

Being a fan of the band "Alt-J" makes it difficult to answer this question. For one, they have such beautiful songs with deep, metaphorical lyrics, so any listener can relate to them. Some examples would be
"Please don't go, I'll eat you whole, I love you so."
This is referring to a quote from the book "Where The Wild Things Are," in which the monsters love the child so much that they would rather threaten cannibalism than live without him.
"Some things lie too deep for tears to well."
"Let's tessellate."
"Forty-eight thousand seats bleats and roars for my memories of you."
"Both still pine for the other's side spine."
Those are just a few examples of the many lines I love from Alt-J :)

From Avril's song : cause I see the soul that is inside
My favourite line is from a Greek poem The Cretan by Solomos. Three thunderbolts fell, one behind the other, close by the girl, and made a fearful din. The translation isn't exact, but oh well. Some Greek words are impossible to translate exactly

My favorite line in a song is this: You got something I need In this world full of people there's one killing me And if we only die once. It's a song of One republic.

My current favorite part (I can't do a line that is so difficult!) is from a Seinabo Sey song called Younger;

"There is a light to all this darkness if only we
Fight against them telling us how we should be
I refuse to have you break me
When you know you ain't getting any younger"
