What is the onlinebookclub's take on this? I write UK style and have never used a comma before "and" unless it is necessary for the sense. In my first review, the reviewer marked me down for this? Just asking.

Yes for Oxford comma because it clarifies the thought of the sentence. It also helps introduce a specific noun in connection to a common noun.

Yes!!! The Oxford comma clarifies the meaning of a sentence, leaving behind no confusion. This is imperative!

It is good to know the limitations to which a specific rule applies. Thanks for this.

I need not vote.

This has been enlightening! As a side note, in copywriting, they use the third comma in lists as I learned from my editor this week. Trying to transition back and forth between fiction and technical writing can be frustrating and humbling!

I always use the Oxford Comma. A major company in the US just lost millions of dollars in a contract because they didn't use an Oxford Comma where it was called for.

AP Style Manual has ruled that Oxford commas should be used when they provide clarity. I never stopped using the Oxford comma. There was the bonus of frustrating my editor.

Yes. Except here in America we call it the Harvard comma. It's more patriotic. ;)
