What is your job?

Post by elissasmart »

Hi guys. It is interesting to know if you are writers by night, who are you by day? How many people work in the writing-related field?
I am about to finish my education and I'm looking for kind of a job where I'll be using pen and thoughts.

I am a writer (I'm not published yet; still working on editing the second draft of my book!). I also started a craft business with my mom. We have our crafts in one store and then we do craft shows throughout the year. My dream is to one day open an independent Christian bookstore and publishing company!

Does anybody aware of copywriter or ghostwriter jobs? Those people who write articles and reviews. Does it worth a try? I'd like to start my career with something like that, but I'll be living on my own so I'd like to know is it profitable.

So if anybody is watching this thread I was invited for the interview as a copywriter. My duties are to create content for a blog and provide paper writing help for all departments. They promised me 15$/hour for the start. I talked to a few copywriters who work there. They told me that being a copywriter the same as being a writer. Only a few can reach success. The vast majority of copywriters get a little bit more than Wallmart's merchandisers. It could be an excellent part-time job for students. If you want to stay in the middle-class with confidence this job shouldn't be your choice.

I want to be a writer when my kids are older. I've started a book and have a few chapters written. During the day I investigate child abuse and neglect.

I'm a freelance writer, Etsy seller, Airbnb host, and homesteader :) I gave up my corporate retail job to chase my dream of writing full-time and the only thing I miss is the steady paycheck! I enjoy freelancing because it's a good way to sharpen my writing skills while I work on completing my novel, but the pay is less than desirable and ideally, I only want to work/write for myself. There are several online platforms for freelance writers to bid on jobs and build a portfolio (even with little to no experience), but most are oversaturated with freelancers and lacking professional clients. Check out upwork and hubstaff talent if you're interested and want to see what kind of writing jobs are available, regardless of location.

I am retired now, I can and do write anytime the fancy hits me. When I worked I was in management. Sometimes I would write when on break, or when things were really slow.

I'm not a writer, but more a reader. I work at my university as a part-time graphic designer.

I'm currently dividing my effort between the promotion of free / open source software / hardware, particularly for the Internet of Things and robotics, and content creation. Writing book reviews is a sort of extension of my job.
Ciao :)
