What's your take on tithing?

Post by Preciosonic »

Some say pastors are thieves for taking tithes because they aren't Levites while others disagree, what's your view?

It good to pay tith but most churches have turn it to ways of enriching themselves.Imagine a whole general overseer of rccg asking members to pay 1billion naira each

I don't attend a church with a tithing tradition, but would say my take on it is that, people who can afford it should probably contribute to their place of worship's upkeep and charitable work, but there should never be any pressure on those who can't.

If you had a congregation with 10 families and each family were paying a faithful tithe, the pastor could make the average (mean) income of the other families in the congregation, assuming tithe wasn't used for any other function in the church.

In order for things to work perfectly in life, there must be balance. Pastors need money to survive like everyone else but they must not greedy. They must give to the poor and needy.

I suppose tithing is okay if the money is put to good use and not go into the pockets of some corrupt church officials. Also they shouldnt make unreasonable demands on people, many who are just barely surviving. Im not much of a Bible scholar, but isnt there a passage where a woman was chastised for only giving a small coin and Jesus said, I dont know the exact words but it was something like thats okay, the gave what she could afford. And thats the way it should be.

Gospel of Mark Chapter 12...
41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. 42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. 43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury 44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.
