Yup. I think I'm going to call it a day too. I have already posted everything I can think of.

Well, phooey. I'm sorry. :(

The answer to the riddle is Erik, aka "the Phantom," aka "the Opera Ghost" from The Phantom of the Opera

The Phantom, aka Erik, aka The Opera Ghost, is often romanticized in the modern adaptations. Also, despite his various monikers, he is not supernatural. You would, however, immediately recognize him (were you to see him), from his distinctive mask.

You've definitely heard him if you've seen the musical, but, even if you haven't, you've probably heard 'Music of the Night' at least once. The musical is only the most well known of the modern adaptations. Another adaptation is from Disney, but is not a cartoon.

Erik always wrote letters and signed them, "The Opera Ghost." Was originally a serial in French. The story takes place in the opera house in Paris (and Paris is a well known tourist destination). The story also includes the falling of a chandelier into the audience of the opera, which had actually happened at the opera house and inspired the author.

And as for the most troublesome hint:
Erik uses a lasso thrown around the neck, which can be thwarted by keeping your hand at the level of your eye. (And I challenge anyone to do this and not have it look unusual). :lol:

I think I covered everything?

@Gravy

FIRST TIME IN THE HISTORY OF THE THREAD - GRAVY STUMPS THE PANEL !!!

:bow-blue: :character-burgerking: :bow-yellow:

I am ashamed to admit that I have never seen a full performance of this play (Phantom), nor do I know much about its background, but I do know the basic story in a very general sense. The clues do fit and I enjoyed reading your detailed explanation of them - all very appropriate.

I don't think we have ever had this happen before (no one solves the riddle). I would think that it should be up to you to decide what we should do next. Would you like to take another turn or pass it off to someone else? It's up to you.

I never would've guessed it. I only know the basics of the story and, as @Gravy says, listened to "The Music of the Night". But that was very educational. Thank you, @Gravy!

Sorry for the absence.

I'm actually really surprised to hear that nobody else has read it (given we're all readers). That completely explains why nobody got it! :lol:

I'm fine with letting you all decide on a new riddler. :tiphat:

Yes. It was quite a blow to get none right after so many attempts.

I can't really think of anything, but how about an easy one to pass the torch.
