Callousness of Heart

One purpose of the heart
are the emotions we feel
Some good some bad
accepting what's real
When things go wrong
we close a door
Refusing to acknowledge
what hurt us before
We put up a wall
calling it strength
What we don't understand
are barriers at length
We forget how to love
We forget how to care
The price for protection
just doesn't seem fair
Instead of denying
embrace your pain
Yes it will hurt
but some how you gain
Reach out to others
when your world falls apart
Callouses are for hands
not for your heart

I've seen countless poems with the same topic; however, the last two lines are cute, good job :)

This one struck with me, opening the heart and not being scared of being hurt after being hurt is such a scary thing. Well written and good flow to it.

Great last two lines:
‘Callouses are for hands
Not for your heart’

Brilliant!

I love the last two lines of this. I'd like to write them down and put them up on my wall, as this is timely advice for me right now. Thank you so much for sharing this piece.
