Free falling.

Post by ncoard »

There’s this girl. This girl is everything I could’ve dreamed of.
She fits so comfortably into my arms I can’t help but wonder if she was made just for that.
She makes me want to write cliche poetry about kissing her
and tasting the sky
and I so I write cliche poetry about her
because she’s the kind of girl who deserves soft metaphors
But has only been given words that taste like blood for so long
That she thinks love should taste that way.

I want to give the sweetness I have inside me to her each day
until it’s all she knows and can remember.
A fools mission, maybe. To want to give someone the world.
But she deserves everything soft and kind I have,
and then more,
and more,
and more.

This isn’t to say she isn’t already soft,
because she is.
Because she’s softer than she knows, and beautiful, and warm.

But, sometimes I feel like she thinks I’m more Icarus than I know.

She thinks she’s the sun that’s going to melt my wings,
And send me soaring
Toward
The floor.

She thinks she’ll be my crash landing,
That she’ll break what’s been broken before.
I almost tell her that I’m not afraid of crashing but the truth is — I’m just not afraid of falling.
And that’s what I’ve done, sweetheart.

I’ve fallen and I know you’ll catch me.
