I'm currently reading the book, but I don't seem to connect with the story. I won't give up reading the book because I'd love to know and understand the ancient Greek culture and history. I love your simple and clear thoughts about the story in your review. Good job. :tiphat:

I like Greek history a lot, so this sounds like something I should check out. I'm particularly interested in how this functions as an alternative history and which parts line up, so I might check it out.

You've really done a great job with this review, and I'm impressed at how well you've picked up on the most relevant aspects. I'm busy with it now, but I have to admit that I'm really battling with the foreign and complicated names - places and people! I tend to get bogged down in trying to pronounce or make head or tail of them! :D

I loved this book!! I also gave it 3 out of 4 stars.

It is such a long book, yet it flies by because it is filled with interesting content.

I really enjoyed your review! I also read The Fox and unfortunately my opinion of the book was not as great as yours. it's nice to see a different perspective.

I hesitated picking this one up because it is so long, but you made it sound very inticing. I love the stories about ancient Greece. Thanks for the review.

Great review! I really enjoyed reading this book. I think it depicts a very interesting time period in Spartan history. I also found it fascinating to see how differently omens and oracles were interpreted to serve certain people's ambitions.

I like to learn about old societies and cultures when it's mixed in with great characters and writing that captures your attention. I've also read, and reviewed this book.

I agree with your review the book was very interesting and accurate in its descriptions. How did you feel about the long glossary at the beginning?

I enjoyed this book, and it was a shame that I had to dock it a star on account of punctuation errors. It was a fascinating look at ancient Sparta, and Leotychides was an interesting and sympathetic protagonist.

I once came in contact with this book, but I was discouraged by the number of pages and greek words. Thanks for a well-written review though.
