The beginning and ending structure adds to the book's complexity. So interesting. Thanks for the review.

I agree with you on that, CommMayo. I thought that was an interesting twist. Made me smile when I noticed it. I'm glad someone else mentioned it. I forgot to...lol

Thanks for reading the review and for the feedback. May I ask: did you read the book before or after reading the review?

A historical novel about colonialism and Columbus written from the perspective of one of his slaves sounds intriguing, albeit a bit one-sided. The narrator recounts his many adventures in Spain. It is good the book is well-structured, ably narrated and well-edited. Too bad the characters are a bit one-dimensional. I am not sure it is for me, but I am glad you enjoyed the book. Thank you for the review!

Definitely a timely and well chosen book of the day. I admire the author for telling both sides of the Columbus story. He was not a perfect man and did many dark and terrible things, but he was not a one dimensional monster either. The religious extremism of the inquisition and the effects on indigenous people could make this an interesting read. I wish the reviewer had explained a little more about which parts were oversimplified.

I don't like historical fiction on the best of days, so I'm afraid I have no interest in Guarocuya's tale of travels with C. Columbus and co. Thanks for the thorough review, though.

This is a balanced and well written review, kudos for the good job! The story seems to be grim or is it the conclusion? Nonetheless this seems to be an important read. Looking at world events today, there are lots of lessons to be learnt, as the world from east to west is bent on factionalism, taking sides and no prisoners, with the obligatory saber rattling. Congrats to the author on #BOTD

I don't often read historical fiction, but a story about Columbus and the Spanish Inquisition from the perspective of a Native American sounds different and interesting. Thanks for your review!

I only recently began to indulge in history. I do not have much experience with this time period. I respect the authors choice to shed light on the darker aspects of this era. Congrats on BOTD!

Well-rounded review! This seems like a very interesting book. I've read part of the sample, and some of the sentences go unfinished. I'm wondering if the book you read did the same thing, like it's supposed to be written as the writer was thinking?
