Great review. This book covers an interesting topic at a relatively unique point in time. The awards and recommendations are also a plus. This is a little outside my wheelhouse, but I might give it a shot.

Thanks for pointing out how the writing style is relatively modern, because that's my constant struggle with some historical fiction books. This isn't really a priority for me right now, but when I get the right frame of mind to read something educational, I'd definitely go back to this one.

It's grate to see a book that revolve about women and their strength and endurance through hardships. It reminds me of how much power does a women carry.
Thank you!

Thank you for your thoughts about this book and the themes that stood out to you. Would you say that there is a lot of accurate historical evidence in the book? I have added it to my reading list as I do think it looks interesting.

I hadn't heard of the Panic, which is an example of how historical currents change lives. I've previously read more about the women's suffrage movement in Britain, so it would be interesting to see the American perspective. This sounds like a readable account in which the protagonist turns from letting external forces shape her to shaping history.
This post was brought to you by the word "specifically".

I like the idea of a historical fiction novel set in a less covered era. There are many, many works set in the major wars and upheavals, but this period is not as well known, and that opens up the possibility of different, maybe subtler stories.

I'll put this in the "Want to Read" pile. Thanks for the review.

I love historical fiction, especially books that have a female protagonist reaching for success in a man's world. This book sounds like a perfect fit for me. I've been very interested in the suffrage movement lately (both US and abroad) so this topic sounds fascinating. Thank you for the great review!

Sounds like the type of book i would like to read. I love historical fictions/historical romance books.
I don t know much about the sufragette movement but the time period alone would entice me into reading this book. i think i will put it in my "to read" pile.
Thanks for your review, i enjoyed it very much.

Very thorough review! I really like how this one sounds- it definitely does not sound typical or predictable! I like that the author chose to stay away from the usual happily ever after endings, which is just my guess since I haven't read the book yet. However, based on your review I surmise this storyline takes a different path than the usual historical fiction/romance novels. I'll definitely check this one out. Thanks for your review!

Thanks for writing the review! I'm interested in Penelope's character after you've pointed out that she isn't flawless. Always great when an author fully fleshes out a character instead of them just being perfect.

Another one for my "Want to Read" shelf! At first, I judged this book by its cover and assumed what the main character would be like. Your review dispelled my first impression. I am glad to find out she is not predictable or depicted as perfect. It also sounds like she's not at all insipid, as many historical fiction heroines are written, in my opinion. Thanks for the mind-changing review.
