Yep, I agree with you. The plot is highly interesting and has a lot of potential, but the downfalls of the book steal them all. It's sad to say but those downfalls are like 'please, please don't read the book'.

Great review. Historical fiction can be a toss when picking one up, either it focuses too much on the time period and historical aspects or it has it's own story. This book focuses on a Japanese solider with a bipolar syndrome. It's a great time when people can write a book that isn't solely focused on a disability, but rather include such a topic in a well rounded story.
