Such a great review, I like the fact that you couldn't find any flaw in the book, and in such an interesting story to read makes that even better, thank you - Simon

Finding the Raven by Patty Dickson

Genre: YA Historical fiction

Read the first chapter to get a feel for the book and was pleasantly surprised. It includes an introduction which I found very useful into telling readers basically what the story entails and the scenery without giving away specific details.

The story is written in third person POV and follows a young woman named Julia who witnesses her father's death in a place she had once cherished. The chapter was very vivid, I could imagine every thing the author described in my head. My initial view of Julia was that she reminded me of Claudia from "Interview with the Vampire". Meaning, she had this innocence about her that I found similar to that of Claudia. It could also be due to the fact that the scenery seemed to remind me of the theater Claudia went to in the movie.

Overall I find this book to be quite promising just from the first chapter. I can't wait to see how Julia copes and tries to discover the mystery.

From your description, this book balances plot and historical context very well - not only through the setting but also in the context of what it meant to be a woman at that time.

Wonderful review...the thing with historical fiction is that ,it does two jobs simultaneously. It instructs and it pleases. It also manages to transport one to a different time period all together. It also shows how human civilization has progressed, giving a feeling that one is participating in history. I must say that the book cover is so wonderful, it has made me want to read the book even more. I feel it's going to be a great read :)

You've convinced me to give it a try and I find your writing extraordinary. If the book is as well written as the review I will certainly enjoy it. As for woman's jobs, I wish they were as available today as they are today. I need one. (I wrote it the way I meant it. "today")

You've whetted my appetite for this historical romance! Looking forward to reading the stories of Julia and Rose. I typically find historical fiction somewhat tedious to read, but your review makes it sound riveting. Thanks for the well-written review.

I love books with a twist of history, so covering any 1904 automobile is a great story-line for me to read. I give absolute thumbs up on both historical value and for Finding the Raven's nice plot.

Aloha,

Kudos with your review! I have only read chapter one. I was drawn to this book by bond between main character and her dad. When she her dead die, it made you want to reach out to your dad.

In Chapter One it mention about "after the chaios quites down. No one notice the figure....." I want to know who did this.

Yes, this is historical fan. Regardless, I am picky. I am Bless to have Bachelor in Histor and being a history intern for online history new site. I am Blessed because despite my three disabilites, I did it!

I want to do some history research on this book. Again, I know it is fiction. I do hate when history get tangles.

Blessings
