“This book describes the human condition immaculately, in all of its forms, and leaves you enjoying a renewed sense of hope for a brighter and more understanding future.”

What a lovely statement. I think we can all use some hope for a brighter future. Great review!

A story of tragedy but also of hope that includes themes that are still very important today. Thank you for your great review!

This sounds like a very poignant story that shows that everyone could and should be able to live together, regardless of race or creed. Thanks for a wonderful review!

It seems as though it is too irresistible for authors to write about New Orleans without mentioning Vodoo practices in some way. Perhaps this is because it has influenced the culture so much.
:eusa-think:

Even so, this historical fiction novel seems to touch on a very sensitive topic — race relations. I like the fact that this story centers around a budding friendship.

Thank you for an honest and heartfelt review.

Very true :) It is up to us to decide who we would like to interact with, and not those that would enforce their beliefs onto us. Thank you so much for your kind words and for stopping by! Happy reading :techie-studyinggray:

This book seems to be a wonderful exploration of some heavy topics. As a fan of historical fiction, this has caught my interest. Great review.

It has indeed been a different time back then. I love historical fiction in general and the theme of this book seems interesting enough. Vodou magic and ritualistic sacrifices are something that seriously frighten me and I am happy that I can only read a story instead of being there in the actual scene... ;)

Thanks for your inspiring review!
