What's your Favourite Talking Animals Book?

Post by Lincolnshirelass »

Many children's books have talking animals as the heroes - I love 'Wind in the Willows' and the 'Duncton Wood' series, but if push came to shove my favourite would be 'Watership Down' by Richard Adams. The descriptions of landscape are also beautiful, though sensitive smaller children may be distressed by some sections. Come to that, at my age I still have weird dreams about the Black Rabbit of Inle!
An Eye for an Eye only ends up making the whole world blind.

Charlotte's Web is a classic. Another one is Brer Rabbit by Enid Blyton, a collection of very funny little stories about a cunning rabbit who tricks other animals in the woods, including Brers Wolf, Fox, Bear and Terrapin... Such quaint reading for a little kid and the adult she's grown up to be :)

I always loved the Chronicles of Narnia. I wanted an Aslan of my own. Its a hybrid talking animal/human series, but I think it counts.

My kiddos are a bit younger, but they love the Piggie and Elephant series by Mo Willems.

My absolute favorite has to be Winnie The Pooh.
Other favorites include Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little.
