Thanks everyone for the great feedback! Several of you made a good point that having some advanced words in a book for young children is not necessarily a drawback. BookishBookeeping - Like you, I did a double take at first and thought the title was that of the popular children's book, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar." :)

I love the title THE VERY LOVING CATERPILLAR by Sean Browne. It's trigger my curiosity---how could a caterpillar become very loving? I think it's really awesome. Reading through it, i believe this book is not only for kids--this for all ages. Lessons about life, hope and love are articulated in simple words and beautiful illustrations.

I agree. I think it might be a little difficult for children to understand but the illustrations are wonderful. I think they would be delighted by the pictures.
I was a little thrown off by the sudden metamorphosis, but understand the need in the context of the story.
I think you wrote a very truthful and thoughtful review.

Great review. Confusing fact and fantasy is a fact of life for children. That's ok. The story is interesting and will accomplish a few things in the thought life of a reading child. Bravo!

What a delightful childrens book! The illustrations are adorable, but the best thing about this book is the overall message about love and family. I can't wait to read it to my nephew and niece!

This children's book has a good premise and is nicely illustrated but really makes very little sense, especially to children who can be very literal. Why does the main character become a butterfly while his family remain caterpillars? And if he is a butterfly how can they join him and go elsewhere since he can fly and they can't.
A little rethinking would help. Two stars for effort.

what I love about this story is that u can actually relate it to real life the long caterpillar can be a symbol for a parent who tries his/ her best to provide the best for their family especially ensuring their safety

It sounds like a sweet and gentle book for children. I’ll read it to my son (though he’ll like illustrations best, I think). :) Thank you for a nice review! :)

I like the environmental message, and I think the part of the story where bickering gets the caterpillars nowhere enforces another good message for kids (and lets face it, for adults too). I don't usually read children's stories these days, but this one sure sounds cute.
