I prefer the book than the movie. Definitely, the book...

I prefer to read the book and then watch the movie.

Definitely the books, the movies leave out too many important details and kind of limits your imagination. Also, the only decent movie was Divergent the other movies in the series were not nearly as good as the books are!

Book, by a narrow marigin. And that is only by the demerit of the movies.

The book could have been improved, could have been better. But it still trumps the movies. At best, the movies are teasers to want to get the books.

I've only watched the movie. So, I can't say which is better. But, I feel the book will be better because when the books are turned to movies, they always loose some parts. I know this from previous experiences.

100 percent the book. There is too much missing in the movie. I loved the guy who played Four, but the movie didn't capture the intensity and emotion that the book did.

I didn't like the book as a whole, I thought it would be better but the movie is ok. It is a very formulaic and predictable storyline that is immersed in an intricately-built world. However the acting is good, particularly Shailene Woodley, who makes everything feel much more real. The movie is better.

I believe that the overall movie series was generally far worse than the novels. They were missing many of the dramatic scenes, and the chemistry between Four and Tris was severely lacking. I was overall disappointed with the series.

I hold on to the general rule that the book is better than the movie.

I also hold the rule that I do not watch the movie until I have read the book, unless I have no intention of reading the book. I prefer to start reading the book with an open mind and no preconceived notions about the characters or the stories. If I watch the movie first I know I will skip through the book and not be as committed to the read.

I love that the movie was so good because I was able to entice a reluctant reader to read this book with the “carrot” of the movie. We had already done this with The Maze Runner. I’m a middle school Humanities teacher.

Book. The movie was amazing though, like it fit the themes of the book well.

Definitely book. Movies left out too many things.

I'll always stick with the book first and that goes for almost all live adaptations of any book. Probably a bit biased, as the books are generally read first. I understand the story better because a whole lot of details that were left out in the movie are found in the book. Not bashing on movies, however, as all the action and special effects bring it to life in a whole different way and I don't have to pay as much attention to the movie as I do with books.

Obviously the book. The movie had many changes and it did not follow the whole story line and there were so many things left in the movie.

I feel that a long book could always explain more than a movie with a specific deadline and budget. I loved how the book gave so many details and thrilled me a lot. The movie wasn't bad, but I prefer the book a lot more.
