Percy Jackson Series by Rick Riordan

Please do not get fooled by the movies! The books hold so much more promise and journey. The concept of incorporating greek mythology really adds a sense of excitement when reading. Yes I understand how you may thing that would be boring but when you start to read you immediately fall in love with the characters and the books in genera as you watch the character development grow and start to connect with them.

These are popular ones, but I LOVED them. My personal tastes tend towards fantasy YA, so...

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas, just wow. I genuinely loved every single character. Not sure how to describe it without giving too much away, but it's 100% my favorite series of all time. MAJOR surprise at the beginning of the second book.

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard, it's exciting and romantic, overall a fun read. Told in a world where people are divided by the color of their blood -- Reds are normal, Silvers have powers and are considered superior. Mare, a Red, has powers, and the royal family will do anything to keep the world from realizing her strength lest a revolution ensues.

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare. Again, all of the characters are so compelling. There's a love triangle -- BUT IT'S ACTUALLY GOOD -- and it broke my heart because I loved all three members... good thing the ending was perfect.

Well, my first recommendation would be to start borrowing books from your local library, instead of buying them. Saves you money and annoyed-mother-problems.
After that, well, there are so many good YA books out there it's really hard to pick only a couple but, have you tried any of Cassandra Clare's series? I think that would be a good start. But if you're looking for more of a realistic YA novel then my recommendation would be The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson.

My personal favorite young adult series is The Inheritance Cycle (Eragon) by Christoper Paolini. Dragons, elves, dwarves, humans and a myriad of other new creatures - what's not to love?!?

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is my all-time favorite YA. It's so easy for me to relate to, which I guess is sad but it's the reality for more people than you think.

I really enjoyed reading Life of Pi by Yann Martel. It is jam-packed with literary genius - every paragraph. This is the story of a young man who was the lone survivor of a shipwreck. He is alone on a small boat with a tiger. There are many themes throughout the book that are very deep, and it will have you rereading certain parts to make sure you don't miss anything. Highly recommended for all ages.

I will forever recommend the Six of Crows duology. Though being bombarded with new and complicated terms at the beginning of the first book, it got really easy to be engrossed in their universe.

I'm currently reading the glass series by Marie V. Snyder. I enjoyed her study series as well. But one of the best YA series I've read this year was The Young Elites triology by Marie Lu. It was mind-blowing. The last two books were so good I read them in a single sitting ( who needs sleep right?). I would recommend them to all YA fantasy fans. Especially fans of the graceling series and grisha triology.
