Spell Check that doesn't let you down

Post by writerlady1904 »

Hello. I have open office 4.1.5 that I use. I've noticed that despite using their spell and grammar check, a lot of errors get past it. Is there a software or program that has a better, more dependable spell and grammar check? My spelling completely sucks, so I depend on a check program heavily. Any recommendations? Even if I have to pay for it, it would be worth it. Thank you in advance for any suggestions. :techie-studyingbrown:

I like Grammarly. I use the free version. Combined with the review task in Microsoft Word, most, if not all, errors are caught.
Life without a good book is something MrsCatInTheHat cannot imagine.

I always try all of the free grammar checker I googled. Some of the words missed is found on the other. Most of them though, leads to Grammarly.

I have used Grammarly for the past couple of years. (I subscribe to it because it becomes an add on to word, making access quick and easy.) Yet, mistakes will still filter through. I am planning to try ProWritingAid when my subscription comes up for renewal because it is about half the price.

Please check out Hemingway App! Like Grammarly, it has free services as well as a paid desktop app. However, the free version is wonderful! I like to run my papers and reviews through Hemingway first and follow up with Grammarly. Hemingway keeps track of adverb usage, passive voice, simpler alternatives, the difficulty of sentences, and the readability of the passage overall.

I've tried Grammarly and like it. Scribens is a great one, too. It will check other writing parts like repetitive word usage as well as grammar and many others.

Definitely Grammarly. I started with the free version (which is very good!) but eventually upgraded to the premium version. It's definitely worth the investment if you're a writer!

I have to co-sign Grammarly here. I have the professional version for work which I can use on my personal laptop as well. Still, it's not perfect. I try to periodically refresh myself on the fundamentals, write, put something away for 24 hours, then proof, and have another person proof it. I don't always follow this formula, but I try.
