I think that anyone can write however much works for them. If you want to write a certain number of pages or a certain number of words per day, then go for it. Not everyone writes for the shallow purpose of making money. Even having books published doesn't necessarily make someone the perfect expert on giving advice on how to write.
As for me, I wrote a few hundred words in an annoying transition segment on a "memoir"-like story I am trying to put into words just to get it out of my head, and then I wrote a "blog" update for my family for facebook. Neither of which have any real purpose in the publishing world, but that doesn't mean I can't write it.

I wouldn't however say that writing for money is "shallow" in the main. Major writers whom we admire all get paid. I think the difference is whether you sell yourself, or just sell the product that you provide.

Do I write for money? You're darned right. I do write because I love writing, can think of not much else that I enjoy more, and not necessarily everything that I write is for sale -- I've written articles and essays that I've had published, for example, in religious periodicals that were simply donated. I've done the same for friends and for charitable work, and also for political campaigns that I've volunteered for.

But I do try to sell my short stories and more commercially directed articles, and of course my novels. Thus far I've been lucky in that most have been purchased for professional publication, albeit not for a lot of dough. I write my novels because I enjoy the creation of a mystery and thriller or whatever, but at the same time I work hard to provide a literate, intelligent, and commercially publishable book.

Two new chapters plus some revisions of older stuff. All of course straight into MS-Word, as always.

Truth be told, I dont know if I can write either. Ive always wanted to be a writer. I have these pictures (parts of a story really) that pop into my head and they nag me until I get them out.

Hope you are able to work through what you need to....Like Shrek says "Better out than in!" :happy-bouncyredfire:
That would explain why writing helps my head feel lighter.

I went from 8 chapters to 11 today, and am currently sitting at 19,862. It's a YA novel, so my target word count is 50,000.

I didn't keep track, but I think I got one or two thousand words done today. I've also done a little editing, and hopefully I'll get through four or five pages before I go to bed.

About 3000 new words, plus a considerable amount of revision and tweaking of the first 6 chapters of my newly completed mystery novel. Things are going well now, and (crossing my fingers, toes, noses, whatever else I have) I think I'm very close to a deal with a midsize publisher, for pretty decent bucks. Keen. Should know in a month or so.

Finished a new and total review of my new novel, tightening the narrative and making teeny adjustments to the dialogue. Not a lot of actual writing but hours and hours of scouring. Almost ready to submit to the publisher.
