As for me, I wrote a few hundred words in an annoying transition segment on a "memoir"-like story I am trying to put into words just to get it out of my head, and then I wrote a "blog" update for my family for facebook. Neither of which have any real purpose in the publishing world, but that doesn't mean I can't write it.

Do I write for money? You're darned right. I do write because I love writing, can think of not much else that I enjoy more, and not necessarily everything that I write is for sale -- I've written articles and essays that I've had published, for example, in religious periodicals that were simply donated. I've done the same for friends and for charitable work, and also for political campaigns that I've volunteered for.
But I do try to sell my short stories and more commercially directed articles, and of course my novels. Thus far I've been lucky in that most have been purchased for professional publication, albeit not for a lot of dough. I write my novels because I enjoy the creation of a mystery and thriller or whatever, but at the same time I work hard to provide a literate, intelligent, and commercially publishable book.

That would explain why writing helps my head feel lighter.TLGabelman wrote:Truth be told, I dont know if I can write either. Ive always wanted to be a writer. I have these pictures (parts of a story really) that pop into my head and they nag me until I get them out.ALynnPowers wrote:That's great you're doing the contest! I thought about and them had to face realities that I can't write short stories. So instead I wrote a long Facebook note for my family. Only that. And three pages of a memoir detailing some pretty horrible events I experienced. Ugh.
Hope you are able to work through what you need to....Like Shrek says "Better out than in!"
