In the prologue to his book, author Gio Flores states, "This is my first time writing a book, and I have no idea what I'm doing." He also states, "This book is flawed and imperfect." I found both of those warnings to be accurate. However, God Must've Spent a Little More Time on You is a work filled with emotion and passion. Gio Flores was motivated by a force, inspired by God, to help others. I am not a Greek scholar, but I would imagine Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John probably had some grammatical errors while telling their stories. Mr. Flores had more than 45 in the first half of his book.

Despite all the linguistic issues, I enjoyed reading this book. The honesty displayed is refreshing. The writing style is earthy. One of my favorite lines, "I wasn't thrilled about going to Afghanistan, it was just the diarrhea dump on what was already a sh*t sundae," is an example of this author's prose.

Flores describes his life as a nobody. Living in poverty as a child made him an outcast. This feeling followed him throughout most of his life, and he describes the various stages of his journey to find meaning for his existence. He wants to help other nobodies in their search. By sharing the obstacles he had to overcome, he wants to show that it is possible to find happiness and success.

The author included an afterword. I don't want to be accused of giving a spoiler, but Flores uses the story of David and Goliath as a metaphor for his plea to Americans to take a stand. I recommend this book to readers who have feelings of hopelessness and to those who are thinking that death is a better option. If Gio Flores can overcome all the obstacles that he did, there is hope for everyone.

Often English teacher will give two grades for an essay: one for content and one for mechanics. I wish I could rate this book the same way because it would be full credit for content and zero for mechanics. I am relegated to giving an average, so my rating is two out of four stars. Mr. Flores says that he started this book as self-therapy, and he had no intention of publishing it. I suggest that he now take that idea one step further and enlist a professional editor. Then he can eliminate that sentence in the prologue because the flaws and imperfections will have been eliminated.

I like the fact that Flores never intended to publish. It means that you would get all their unfiltered thoughts and judging by your review I can relate to some of those thoughts. Great review.

Thanks for your honest review. Despite its flaws, it looks like this book can benefit outcasts and those who are suffering from depression.
