Fifty Shades of Grey to me is a quick read. It's the kind of book that someone would probably categorize it as a guilty pleasure. It's not a great book but it's not as bad as the media portrayed it nowadays. It's about an innocent young woman fresh out of college (or about to finish college) that meets a rich man that has a couple of kinky secrets and a sad past. That's the best way I can explain it to you without giving too many details.

I absolutely love Fifty Shades. The trilogy, the book done from Christian's pov, and the movie. I have reread all the books at least half a dozen times. Probably one of my very top favs.

Therevare many opinions about those books, different ones. I'd like to think that there was more than just an erotica trillogy. But given all the sex all the time it is hard to believe so. Even though, it is a hot steammmmyyyy series if you are up to!

I read the first volume and the sex was titillating. However I do agree that some of the scenes further into the book was repetitive. I enjoyed the movie though.

The book was more thorough than the movie in my opinion. But I loved the book! Christian would do anything for Anna but he was scared to show her his real sexual side. In all honesty, Christian was damaged goods but he loved Anna

Although it was originally a fan fiction of Twilight, I quite enjoyed the books! It opened up a whole new world which could be happening behind any big businessman's door!

It's not all about the erotic storylines and the sex stuff, there's the relationship side, or the lack of it in Grey's case to start with. As the books develop you see the relationship start to come out and develop alongside the sex.

I enjoyed reading this series and will probably read it again someday. I haven't seen the movies because I don't want to spoil the illusion of the books!

I read the whole series,i am totally blown away.I seriously enjoyed the kinky sex,the roughness of it.The whole Christian Grey control over Ana turns me on,its as if you can literally feel his blood boiling in his veins...The intense, and raw emotion, his demeanor..Such a powerful, seductive, tantalizing book to read....

Fifty Shades Darker is so erotic,it's like soft porn....You'll be glued to your book, fascinated, and so stimulated,it'll leave you breathless...If you haven't read the first one, then you're missing out!!!!!!

I have read all the books and enjoyed them. I read as a way to leave reality sometimes and just as something leisure to do at times. That said, I probably cannot put the book in a short way. They were good as learning who each person was and what they were doing in their lives when they met. And if you read to see what the story is and what is happening in whatever their lives are, you can see a growing in their lives with each other and while you are experiencing a small portion of what the author tried to write about, you are again experiencing something happening good between two people who were at loose ends in their lives. And, remember, what goes on between two people behind their private doors is for them to enjoy. Needless to say, I enjoyed the books and the story. The movie needs a better director. Those who tried and closed the book - Cujos to you who at least tried out of your own genre. I apologize for the lengthy thought.

I was not a fan of this book at all. I enjoy something in books called a plot! This book had no plot!

I collected all 3 volumes before I read the book. I wanted to have each on hand and not have to wait a year for the next. I enjoyed the books and did not see the movie. I felt like there would be too many things would be left out of it. Of course as a reader you would know what comes next. Now the book had quite a bit of the domination going on, it taught me one thing its interesting if you are reading it, but in reality no.

After getting part way through, I felt the dude had issues and I ended up reading it all. He was someone that needed fixing.

I love romance in my books, and I am a huge fan of Twilight. I heard that Fifty Shades was originaly written as Twilight fan fiction, and that made me want to read it more. I had heard all the chatter and opinions on it, and regardless of my own feelings towards the subject matter (which didn't bother me one bit) I read it and became instantly hooked. I immediately bought the next 2 books before I even finished the first one.

It is much more about what makes us tick, and about the baggage we carry with us into all relationships. It is about control, and learning to loosen the grip, and exploring beyond your comfort zone, beyond the confines of which you limit yourself- and I'm not just talking sexually. The first book, yes there is a ton of sex-but that's just one layer of the onion that is Christian Grey. The story gets really more psychological and deep in the later novels. I wouldn't judge it based on the movie either- while I enjoyed the movie, there is so much more in the book (naturally).

I read these books as I couldn't stop hearing about them on social media - booth good and bad.

As many have previously stated the author originally wrote the first book as an erotic Twilight fan fiction. The book was ridiculously popular online and was subsequently met with a cease and desist from Stephenie Meyers' publishers. EL James changed the names, some of the locations and plotline and eventually was picked up by a publisher that wanted to distribute the book.

The plot lines are almost non existent, but they're there. If you're hoping for a great romantic literary masterpiece - you're going to be sorely disappointed. This book and its follow ups are intended to explore the sexual relationship between the two main antagonists and not much more.

I suppose the reason for the "bad" press is the smattering of BDSM "scenes" throughout. BDSM is considered taboo by some but is entering the mainstream more and more. Housewives and "kinky" women of the world - with little life experience in BDSM and kink - started to use the book as material for their own fantasies. Therein lies the problem to feminists and some in the BDSM scene. Consent is a major issue in this book. Christian stalks, manipulates, emotionally and physically abuses Anastasia. The book explains all of this behaviour by essentially saying "all this stuff is sexy and hot because Christian is rich and sexy and he's into BDSM." Obviously my explanation is oversimplified but you get the drift. Whilst not all feminists and kinksters have the same opinion on this book, they were loud about their objections, thus the bad press.

The book is a work of fiction and should be taken as such. Claims from feminists and kinksters that these books "normalise" this kind of behaviour is - in my opinion - taking things a bit far.

If you want to escape reality, get lost in a land of money, beautiful people and sex scenes that are spicier than most mainstream romance novels, then check this book out. If any of the above concerns you? Maybe don't read it, you'll probably throw the book in frustration.

Fifty shades of grey is for anyone who is into tamed sadism and likes it when a guy demands to be in control over you. It's not a bad book though. There were some good romance scenes in the book. Too bad the movies really suck.

I think it depends on what you like. It was kind of hard to keep reading it at first, but I got first, I say, the first 100 pages it started to get interesting. It is a love story with a twist. Overall, I thought it was an interesting read and the sex was interesting because it gives you an inside look in the BDSM world.
