Fifty shades is an exotic novel yes, but it is also about pushing past your fears and accepting boundries. Accepting you have them and working to get past them.

My book club read this so I felt like I had to read it. I only read the first of the three in the trilogy. It wasn't very convincing and did not hold my interest.

Fifty Shades of Grey is an erotica novel. It does have a very suspenseful and interesting plot though. The book is not all about sex like you might have heard. There are three books to the series and I have read all of them. There is a lot of vulgar, disturbing things and sex as well, but the plot will keep you hooked! I would definitely recommend reading it if you are of age and have interest in erotica novels. Like I mentioned though, the books are not all about sex they are also about dealing with conflict and past troubles in a relationship.

I know that this thread is older, but I felt the need to comment. I read across genres, and decided to purchase the Fifty Shades Trilogy. To the above poster who said it made her think of Stephanie Meyer, you are absolutely correct! Fifty Shades actually started out a self-published Twilight fan fiction.
I found the reading extremely repetitive and the euphemistic language lacking. That being said, I read all three books, because I became personally drawn to the storyline. Albeit cliché, I wanted to see how the happily ever after played out.

I have read the whole series a few times, and am a little conflicted on if I actually like it or not. It seems like the first time I read it, I thought it was possible the best thing ever. But after the second, and then third, I feel like there are other stories that have since emerged that I enjoyed much more. (i.e Crossfire)

At first I was hesitant to read the book because of the BDSM part. But when I read it, I liked it, If you take away the sex part the story is nice. I suggest you read the second and third part, so you'll appreciate it more.

There are actually 4 books to the series. There was a new one published last year, from the perspective of Christian Grey. It was not as thrilling as the first three, but none the less it was interesting. It allowed me to understand Christian better. The first 3 books were in the perspective of Anastasia Steele.
I found the different perspective to be very enlightening. To read both sides of the story.

I think the books became popular, not because the writing was exceptional but for the fact that it introduced the world to BDSM fiction. I read the first book purely because I wanted to know what all the hype was about. I'm not so sure the story line was believable but that is the beauty of fiction. I have to admit I was a little disappointed in the first book because it ended in a cliffhanger but I continued on to the second book. By the time I made it to the third book, I actually started enjoying the books. I have to admit that I was extremely disappointed in the movie rendition of the first book and will not watch the sequel, however, the Fifty Shades of Grey series got me hooked on the erotica genre of writing.

Although I enjoyed this book initially and had to immediately go out and buy the second set in the series, I was a bit confused on why some of the detailed content description was not as influential as the author initially seem. It did however capture my interezt and attention as to where this plot was going. Hence the immediate purchase I'd the second book in the series. I also initially did not understand why the auther ended the first book the way she did, and then realised the hook

I'm intrigued to read the book in the first place when my friend warned me not to buy this Fifty book in a book carnival( I bought it anyway, without him knowing). What I can say is, you need to have an open mind if you're planning to read this. It's dark, twisted, and complicated in a way any book never does to me. It expressing plots that so alien and unknown to me before : BDSM. But it's not all porn and sex; it's deeper than that. Best book I have ever read.

I love the Fifty Shades of Grey series! I admit it is poorly written and reminds me a lot of the Twilight Series but I still love it! The sex gets old at some points but the relationship between Ana and Christian is funny. I really found the emails back and forth to be quite humorous.

The plot itself wasn't too bad, but I didn't like how the relationship played out between Ana and Grey. But that's s preference thing, I think, from personal experiences. I felt like he was constantly coercing her and manipulating her, while still controlling her with the contract and the "jealous love". I also mostly skimmed the sex scenes because they didn't interest me. So all in all, it was an okay read, but I definitely didn't waste my time with the movie or thinking about it too much again.

This trilogy marks my initiation into the romance/erotica genre. Before I mostly stuck to dystopian literature. I waited until all 3 books were out, since i do not do well with cliffhangers and unfinished stories. I was not disappointed. I liked the intensity, pushing eachother out of their respective comfort zones and the need to not loose themselves along the way. The sex part of the book, although good in my opinion, was just a way to emphasize all that was new/challenging about their respective worlds and merging them together. I will also admit that i got there by re-reading the trilogy after getting over the initial shock of a very explicit and unusual sexual practice. I think Grey was a solid character while Anna was a bit annoying with dragging things out and indecisiveness. But she also makes up for it in the last 1/3.

I would not say this it the best trilogy i have ever read in this genre but it is definitly good and would recommend it to others.
