Raymond Carver! I read "Will You Please Be Quiet, Please?" a couple years ago and have been dying to get my hands on it again.

I usually pick out a book of short stories to read based on the theme not the author. But I do really like Lovecraft and Poe.

I like Flannery O'Connor, Alice Walker, and Eudora Welty. These ladies craft stories centered on characters, and that's the kind of read I look for.

I struggle with short stories. That being said, Stephen King's The Skeleton Crew is a collection of short stories that terrifies me to this day!

Haruki Murakami isn't exclusively a short story author but he does have some incredible short stories that I would recommend everyone read starting with Sputnik Sweetheart.

I really like Roald Dahl's Lamb to the Slaughter .
Ray Bradbury's A Sound of Thunder is an excellent piece if you like dytopias. So is There Will Come Soft Rains.
The Monkey’s Paw by W.W. Jacobs and The Black Cat by Edgar Allan Poe are creepy and fun.
Steven King's The Body is great too.

I love everything by Joyce Carol Oates. My friend got me The Corn Maiden and Other Nightmares for my birthday, and the stories were so unsettling.

I am a fan of Flannery O'Connor, a memorable read is a collection of her stories "A Good Man Is Hard To Find" the first story has this title and is a real gem.

One of my favorite short stories author would be Katherine Mansfield. Specially her book "In a German Pension", which I thoroughly recommend.

Another odd one would be Jesús María Silveyra, who wrote "Los Cuadernos de Stefan" (Stefan's Books) amongst other things. I picked it up on a sale once and it remains to this day a book I really like revisiting.

If any of you have read my short stories here you know that I am a sucker for a twist ending. I just finished one by Edith Wharton called Roman Fever. It was a great story with a killer ending.
