Option to follow particular reviewers

So that we can provide faster and better support, this forum (the "Public Suggestion Box") has been retired. Instead, please send any suggestions you have to us using the official website contact form.

This allows us to streamline our support system so that we can get to your message much faster. Instead of our support staff having to check three different places (support forum, suggestion box, and contact form messages), they know can respond to all message through one method, with that one method being the official website contact form.

Option to follow particular reviewers

Post by Alice Heritage »

I'd like to be able to click a button to follow particular reviewers, and receive an email when they post a new review.

You know, you can subscribe to different forums on the user control panel. I would think it would be easy to add a subscription to particular users (although I have a feeling you'd get notified whenever they posted, not just at their reviews.) I do think this would be a good idea, though.

I would absolutely love this idea, and came here actually to suggest just this thing. I'm no expert on web design, but maybe it could be linked somehow to when the status of the "Latest Review" in our profile sidebar changes.

When I see a very well thought out review, or a review from someone I think I share similar tastes and opinions with, I'd love to be notified when they post new reviews. In the mean time, maybe we can share twitter handles? That way you can tweet about your latest book review and other people will be notified.

Or maybe just a subforum where each reviewer has a thread. They can post that they've just written a new review, and others who are interested can opt to "follow" that thread and receive notifications in the same way that they do with any thread that they've responded to. I'm pretty sure you can choose to follow a thread without posting in it, right?

I agree. I'd love it if this could happen.

I guess it would be possible to bookmark reviewers' pages and check from time to time. I'd still like a button though!

I like the idea of being able to follow certain users, where we have a personalized feed that updates when certain users post, or if there is a contribution to a topic we expressed interest in.

I totally agree. I have author friends who might like to join, and I could then give them some support.

Authors can't comment on reviews that someone has done of their work on OBC. Nor can they promote their own work.

I'm sorry, I meant for myself to follow particular authors. Not because they are actively promoting but because I like their work. This person wants to follow a reviewer in that sort of way. They just like their work.

Ah, that makes sense! I was perplexed by how many authors you must know to want to do what I was thinking.... Silly me.
