What unique fact about the Vietnam war was captured in Wild World by Peter S. Rush.

Post by Kindness Alaoma »

There are so many things out there out there about the Vietnam war, especially about the ideas concerning whether the war was needed or not.

But, what unique and verifiable fact do you think was portrayed in this book?

That's easy: Rush captured the fact that it was, in truth, ill-conceived. The verification is in the fact that the war exposed the chasm between the Government and its citizens, particularly those citizens that represented the future, students. Steve's thoughts tell you all you need to know: '...the Vietnamese didn’t attack. There were no front lines, no war objectives, just drafting kids as cannon fodder to fight little men in black pajamas...the country had, without warning, begun devouring its young'.

To me, I think there is nothing unique about the war. The government did not provide any facts to justify the killing.so nothing unique about it. Was just an abuse of power.

I don't think it's a unique fact, but the way the author narrates this made me realize how the war affected absolutely everyone. The way he narrates the students shouting truly gave me goosebumps. It's not unique, there are many books that talk about it, but I had never experienced it in such a real way.

That"s a good question! Dawn, the book focus so much in characters, and development, but I can"t even remember one fact for your question.

I feel when the country is at war, the government-run institutions, lacking any accountability by the state, resort to unfair practices like corruption and misuse of power.

The drafting of kids for the Vietnam war was captured in this book. It was really a sad thing.

I actually thought that the book was going to be about the Vietnam War, or student protests in Vietnam. I thought it was interesting to see how the war impacted the people in the aggressor nation, because we so often classify the aggressor as the 'villain', but not everyone involved in the war chose to be. The students in America didn't choose to attack Vietnam and I felt the way they were protesting and trying to stop the aggression was inspiring and a good reminder not to generalise the enemy.

I think that they youths was pulled in to join the war even if that wasn't their decision and how the war affected the youths overall.

I always knew that there was a divide in support for the Vietnam war. However, this book showed a whole new side. I had no idea how divided the police force was with the people.

I think Rush captured the inevitability the the entire conflict as well as it's effect on the younger generations.

As for the author's portrayal of the conflict between the US government and its citizens, I agree with you. It focuses more on that aspect of the Vietnam war- multi-leveled, systemic corruption.

The unique fact that has stayed with me since reading Wild World is that the Vietnam War was a big mistake!! It cost too many lives, cost too much money, and caused Americans to be bitterly divided!
