I can't handle starting a story and then being told I can't finish it. I am almost neurotic about it. Even if I don't like it I feel obligated to see it through to the end. I would gladly pay a few dollars to make sure I'm getting the whole book. I do completely agree, though, that eBooks are overpriced considering it's a digital product.

Ebooks are better than wattpad, in wattpad there are a lot of stories but filled with young aspiring writers who have lesser writing skills

After I read "The Cellar" by Natasha Preston I was so excited to try out Wattpad. Unfortunately, I quickly discovered that it was filled with fanfics and young teens' writing, which isn't really interesting to me. It became too difficult to sift through everything so I gave up. If anyone ever finds a better alternative, let me know! I tried another website too (I think it was called scribed?) but I remember disliking that one as well, for a different reason that I can't remember.

Wattpad is good as a fun guilty pleasure, but you are right. Those books are sometimes abandoned and usually not professionally edited. When I read, I like to take something from the writing style, and with Wattpad books there are often so many mistakes that I feel it makes me complacent and a lazy reader who just puts up with reading mistakes. I don't think this is a good habit. E-books are generally better edited.

I don't like Wattpad. I've tried it as both a reader and a writer and I dislike it as both.

As a reader: Most stories are low quality, unfinished, or fanfic. I don't particularly like fanfic (I don't have anything against it either, but I prefer original stories, so I avoid sites that have them). The stories that are finished are mostly uninteresting to me too, even the ones that are well written. The better written stories are only "samples" that send you to paid ones - which seems to defeat the purpose of the site (either make it perma-free or write a short that has an ending and you can give for free to bait others to the paid books, I see wattpad as a site to post full stories, not "samples"). And I find the site rather clunky to navigate through.

As a writer: it's the most uncomfortable, unfriendliest site I've ever navigated through. Posting stories is super annoying. Getting discovered is near impossible, getting relevant comments is near impossible, and there's little to no conversion from free readers to willing-to-pay fans.

I'll take ebooks any day over Wattpad.

Speaking as someone who at one point was an avid Wattpad reader ( during my younger years) I would say that both ebooks and Wattpad have their own charms. If you are looking for well put together books with solid content then ebooks can provide that but when looking for short reads or just a break from what you typically read than wattpad might be the way to go. I personally am no longer a fan of wattpad as I find that I am no longer able to find good reads that have me binging. A lot of the content now is far too incomplete or rushed for me to like.

I absolutely love Wattpad. I have used it for years. I do completely agree, there’s a ton of books and stories I have gotten really attached to, just to find out it has been abandoned or unfinished... Wattpad is free, so it’s cheaper than e books. Not everybody is able to paythe prices for all of the books they enjoy to read.

To be honest I don't like Wattpad, the writing feels very amature, so I only read e-Books.
People who read are hiders. They hide who they are. People who hide don't always like who they are.

Wattpad has paid stories now, which is great for authors but not so much for younger readers, but the community is more interactive and easier to integrate into it.

Nah
I've only dabbled in Wattpad a bit but I never read anything that held my attention.
E-books ARE cheaper usually anywhere from half the price of a normal book to about 4-5% of normal price. As a person who appreciates the work of an author I think this is fair, especially when they're trying to make a living from their work.

That said, I'm extremely poor and so I am currently limited in what I can buy. This means that I'm just making a list of books to read in the future and choosing to value what I can find for free all the more.

I believe WattPad is for like fan-fiction stories, or self-written stories, like it is not as professional, so being free is reasonable since the main purpose of posting your articles on WattPad is to share stories, or promote it without any need for profit?
As for ebooks, it is true that it's not physical and also it is a fact that it is cheaper than paperbacks and hardcovers. Still I believe we should pay for ebooks because in whatever format, they are still efforts of the writer and we should take them into credit.

Nanig83006 wrote: 07 Jul 2018, 17:33 Both are great, but I don't believe they're similar. In my opinion, though many authors post original work, Wattpad is mostly fanfiction stories. From my experience, people who write fanfiction sometimes get distracted with everyday life and either forget their stories or simply choose not to finish them. It's devastating because it's usually the really great ones this happens with.

As for ebooks, those are the stories authors don't give up on. Personally, I'd lean more toward ebooks because I won't suffer from heartbreak of an amazing unfinished story. It doesn't mean I won't invest my time on Wattpad, but I find it emotionally safer with finished ebooks.
Well said. I completely agree.

I love Wattpad. Normally I look for the complete tag before I start or I will be really disappointed. AO3 does have a filter where you can only see completed works.

I used wattpad for about a month. After finding way too many unfinished books from years or even months prior I stopped using the site. Yes it has a nice range of books, but I'd prefer to read a finished book. That way I know for sure I will be able to finish it.
