Converting paper books to Ereaders

Post by Emilyflint »

Would you ever convert your whole library onto an Ereader? If so, how long do you think it would take?

Personally, I would not. I love having my paper books.

I also have my own library of paperbacks. But I guess it won't be bad to have an electronic library of those paperbacks, considering that these paperbacks won't last long. But then, this would only matter if I plan to give away these books before I die.

Although, I'm not really sure how can you make an electronic copy of the paperbacks.

I would not. I stick with my "old-school" ways and often just keep buying real books.

Never, I have some copies of books going all the way back to middle school that still have my notes in the margins.

I might. As a college student, I've had situations where I've had to leave most of my library at home while I lived on campus, and then had an itch to read a book I didn't have with me. It's the absolute worst. I think it would take forever, though, and it would be ludicrously expensive to buy all of those ebooks. Maybe if I won the lottery.
I would have to keep all my print books though. I'm attached to them and I prefer them.

I think it's great to have a variety, both digital and physical. There is a place for all. I don't think I could convert all my physical books to digital. It would take forever!

I love reading and I love my physical books, but my husband and I have plans to travel and I would want to take my books with me. With the size of my library, I know that would be impossible to accomplish. I would convert my library only to have the convenience of having all of them with me at once. Though, I would still enjoy coming home to my library. :)

I have both just in case something happens to my physical collection. I also try not to hoard so many books so I end up giving them out.

I think I would convert them because that way I can save them to my drive and I won't lose them.

I wouldn't, but I imagine the process would work like this based on my experience converting documents into pdf files. A person would need to take the book apart and scan each page. Once the pages are scanned into a pdf file, if a different format, for example, epub or mobi, is desirable, the pdf file would need to be converted. I think there are apps to do this. It would be very time-consuming. In other words, a person would have to have a really good reason or very strong desire to spend the time doing it.

I love my ebooks but I don't think I would want to convert my paperbacks to ebooks. I read mostly ebooks now and if I wanted to read a favorite book it's available on ebook.
