Does anyone know of any really good and cheap ebook readers? I would love to get the Sony 700 or the Kindle 2, but they're so expensive!

That's not exactly cheap...

I just used a REALLY old Palm Pilot my dad had and downloaded stuff from Gutenberg. No new books, and the battery life stunk... Worked.

This is a word of warning really. I have the Sony e-reader and I have to say I love it. It is easy to read and carry around, however, I put it in my bag, it was switched off and when i put it back on the top of the screen was damaged. When i looked on line this seems to be a recurring problem and Sony are very reluctant to repair - unless you pay. They do not seem to be taking any reposnsibility. I was very careful with mine and I can not believe it was so easliy damaged. So while I am a big fan I would say be very careful.

Barnes and Noble just released a software for e-reading. It is downloadable for iPhone/iPod Touch, Blackberry, PC, and Mac. I downloaded the app for my husband's iPod Touch and it works pretty well. It has an initial load time that is a little irritating, but hey, it's free so I can't really complain. The text is pretty clear and easy to read as well. The books also seem to be pretty affordable.

Hope that helps!

I would definitely go with a used Palm on eBay. I was able to find a ton of free books when I had mine.

Buy a kindle tablet instead, it is 49$ now on amazon. I am planning to buy one too with my monthly payout.

A kindle tablet is affordable only 49$ on Amazon. Search for voucher codes it'll help lower the price.

If ever I will buy a kindle tablet, can all books on Amazon be free to read or I really need to pay for subscription?

You can download free ereader Prestigio app on Google Play Store. It's free. Read or listen - it's your choice.

I have Kobo and am really satisfied with it. It also wasn't that expensive. I had it for a few years now, so I don't know if the prices are still the same.

I think the Sony PRS-300 is one of the cheapest right now.
