I don't think their relationship is inappropriate or forced -unless you mean in terms of him having more power than she and being in control. However, I don't really see their relationship lasting, seeing as it is so unbalanced and James could let her go to protect himself.

I think it was more realistic that way. They have to be on guard. I know of societies where PDA and domesticity would be criticised. Couples have to be on guard and only do these things where no one is watching. Rules are being relaxed gradually though.

This is something about which I am unsure. Maybe it's because the power balance favors James over Lily. It doesn't seem forced because they've known each other since childhood, but I agree with others because the love part was not completely realized.

Definitely not forced to me but the fact that I felt James who didn't seem very sincere could switch up any time and betray lily was what made the relationship seem tacky to me.

It was definitely a romantic relationship but due to the social canvass at that time Lily was not very sure of that until James accepted it wholeheartedly.

I think as children (Lily and James) there was a genuine type of friendship between them. As they grew older, there was definitely some kind of attraction. The feeling is stronger on Lily's side than James's.

I believe that the relationship between James and Lily is genuine and sincere despite James being Lily's master.

At first I thought James had some ulterior motives by pursuing Lily romantically, but as the story progressed, I realized that he genuinely had affection for her. So, I don't think the romance between them was forced but mutual.

I do not believe that the relationship between Lily and James was forced. The feelings were real for both parties. Considering the consequences of such a romance, why would they willingly force themselves into something so controversial. It would have been way easier for both parties to stay away from each other. Them being together although extremely hard, was not forced. No relationship has smooth sailing. Theirs was not any different, it was just a forbidden.

I think this is one of those relationships, where two people love each other. However, it is the circumstances of life that pull them apart and challenge their bond.

James's and Lily's relationship blooms from friendship into passionate love, and for me this ranks as the most romantic thing ever. Society dictates it as inappropriate, but it felt right between James and Lily, and that's all that should matter.

It is a difficult relationship. An impossible one, yet the two persevere. I am ambivalent about it but I believe love can triumph. Where there is a will, a way must be forged. It is an era where slavery is prominent. Presently, the power is tilted on one side. A person’s good and well - being depending on another is too much responsibility. For James and Lily, only Divine Intervention will help, or what?

Their relationship has a mix of both healthy and loving relationships and instances of inappropriate love. I did not like the inappropriate and abusive part of their love.

Even though I liked the romantic relationship between them I felt like it was a little bit forced and hyped up. Nevertheless I enjoyed reading about it.

I don't think James and Lily's relationship is forced because we see the connection between them grows from when they were children. As adults, they struggle with society's restrictions but their love connection was there long before they became aware of the reality around them.
