James was a horrible character. He was definitely overly jealous in a harmful and negative way. Their relationship was extremely toxic; James was not a positive character.

I think James is more insecure than jealous. Their circumstances somehow affect his confidence with his self and his relationship with Lily. He probably doubts if they can sustain a future given their situation. The feeling of inadequacy makes him angry most of the time. He becomes possessive to compensate for the things that he is incapable of doing, which makes him angrier.

He definitely was. Personally, I don't think I could put up with such attitude. His jealousy was too much.

Definitely James was expressed as a possesive character by the author but i this that is a natural response as he feared to loose lily.

The only concern I have about James personality being a jealous one is that, his level and kind of jealousy tends to be the possessive type, even though it could and was coming from a place of love. But then it was just too much

Well, no other way to describe James other than saying, he is jealous, and this demeanor manifested in his reactions towards the son of the black family that Lily stayed with. Insecurity in his relationship could be attributed to his jealous kind of life.

I felt that James was jealous but also protective. I thought he wanted to make sure that she was safe even though his behavior would show the opposite. He wanted Lily for himself, and it was a struggle because of society's rules.

James was obviously a jealous guy. Remember Lily had once been separated from James when they were young, now that he had the chance to be with her again, it is understandable why he acted all jealous. I agree with you here, James was very jealous.

I believe his jealousy stemmed from the circumstances in which they found themselves. I didn't think he was overly envious.

James was just overly jealous, he was, in a negative. The relationship was even toxic. I don't feel good about that.

James was jealous. I think he was not clear about this thing. But he still controlled his feelings.

I think James was so insecure in that it turned to jealousy. He was too much possessive and obsessed with Lilly that he forgot how to treat her right.

James was insecure, which fueled anger and frustration, and that led to an unhealthy amount of jealousy. Yes, sometimes we all experience some jealousy to an extent, but what matters is if you let that jealousy take over. James' jealousy was not one driven by any positive emotion, such as love, or his way of trying to protect Lily. It was more possessive than protective.

James is trying to cling on to Lily and that's him being possessive. Having lost someone close to him can be the reason he acts this way. But still he's unfairly jealous I feel.
