Life is but a Dream is a unique spiritual novel by Brandon Zirulnikoff. This book vividly describes the darkest times in the author’s life and the mentality and realizations that ultimately saved him. It carefully elaborates on what we are—Source and one Infinite Being— while emphasizing what we are not —our bodies and emotions. The latter chapters focus on the different paths we can follow to realize our true nature: the path of Meditation, the path of Love, and the path of Devotion. Finally, the last chapter summarizes the virtues of each path and encompasses practical advice for the journey ahead.

This is a professionally edited book with staggering insights and carefully elaborated ideas. It is well-structured and veritably takes the reader on a journey to self-discovery. The author masterfully illustrates his points, enriching the narrative with numerous examples from his personal experience, especially in the earliest chapters. This book is also very educational, as the reader is given time to absorb the present information. On the other hand, the writing in some passages is obscure and difficult to understand.

This book describes the different paths to liberation in great depth, always quoting the lives and practices of renowned spiritual leaders, such as Jesus Christ and the Buddha. The third chapter, for instance, provides the inexperienced reader with a practical guide to meditation and passionately outlines its benefits. More importantly, this novel is filled to the brim with references to similar and highly acclaimed books for further exploration of the subject. As already stated, the only negative comment about this book is that the truths and insights it promises are hard to grasp for the spiritually unprepared reader. It is definitely a book one will have to revisit at a later time, possibly even more than once.

In conclusion, Life is but a Dream is an inspirational and thought-provoking book about spirituality and the most persistent questions regarding human nature. It is exceptionally well-written and a great starting point for someone interested in the subject. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to study the beliefs and practices of spiritual mentors, such as the Buddha, and anyone who seeks the truth. However, it is by no means an easy read. One needs an open mind and great concentration to appreciate this book. Consequently, my rating is 4 out of 5 stars.
