Mrs. Smith noticed some lumps under her breasts but, for her fear of cancer, she hid them and lived in denial. Mrs. Smith's husband saw this and took her for a medical examination. The examination showed that Mrs. Smith had less than six months to live because of how much the tumor had developed. It was sad because she had cared for her granddaughters since they had lost their mother. This book is a compilation of the day-to-day cases that doctors face daily. Dr. Brownlee wrote about the different cases he encountered and how he went through them with his patients. Want to find out what happened to Mrs. Smith? Grab a copy of this book.

Firstly, the author is such a sweet soul. I loved how he was always available for his patients and even checked on them later. His method of tending to patients was lovely. He always made sure to make the patients feel comfortable. He is also an excellent listener. Before diagnosing a sickness or disease, he carefully listened to his patients. The author did his best to explain most of the medical terms in this book so that readers would not become confused while reading it.

This book was a medical guide, but it was fun to read and very educational. This book taught me about the importance of early diagnosis. Many patients in this book were saved because their sickness was noticed and treated early. Some patients barely made it or did not even make it out of their medical condition because they tried to hide the signs and symptoms. I also learned that being open and truthful with your physician can go a long way toward helping you. There are loads of lessons to be learned from this book. From the look of this book, one may think it would be a boring read, but to my surprise, it was fun and even had a bit of humor. The "Steve to Stephanie" story was hilarious.

I was troubled by some scenes in this book. The scene in which a girl becomes paralyzed because an anesthetic chemical did not clear her system in time. I was distraught by this scene because I feel the anesthesiologist should have conducted a test to check for possible reactions before administering the anesthetics. Another scene that made me worried was when the author admitted to not being a specialist in administering hormones but still went ahead to do it. Even though a specialist in that field guided him, I still have a problem with one operating outside their field. Finally, the quotes at the top of some chapters were unreadable because they were jam-packed.

I don't think the negatives of this book can lower the rating, so I rate A Doctor's Tales by Lawrence R, Brownlee, M.D. 4 out of 4 stars. I found a few errors, but they were minor, and I could still understand the message that was passed across. This book was professionally edited. I recommend this book to student doctors or those who aspire to be doctors someday. This book will help expose them to the medical world and help them learn how to tend to patients. People who love to read medical novels will love this one too.
