Review of Ungraduated
The book begins on an unforeseen note, where the first few pages had me dreading it. However, when the author starts detailing his life experiences, journey and lessons, I quickly become absorbed from one page to the other.
The book demands liberal-minded individuals because the topics are diverse. They range from mental to physical to science to the past and reality. The author informs us that the mind is a powerful element in our body. So much so that our physique can be influenced by what we put in it. For instance, you can start gaining weight by simply thinking of yourself as obese. You begin living a lifestyle full of unhealthy eating habits; thus, weight gain will be inevitable.
Ken branches the book into four parts. He delves into a few scientific and religious notions. One challenging topic was about labels. Hannaman asks, “If not labels, what defines us?” We all want a better something: cars, houses, physique, etc. But should our accomplishments define us? We all have weak spots in our lives or what the author categorically calls “blind spots.” You could have stammering issues, and that could be one blind spot. Could it be a postpartum body after child delivery? Look at your child as a gift, not the body. Ken advises us not to let our weaknesses define us.
I enjoyed the versatility of the author’s work. There is not too much of one thing. If anything, the book fills us with constructive thoughts and teaches us how we can navigate around the negative ones. To define this installment, it was thought-provoking! With insights from a struggling childhood through teenage life and currently a successful business executive, one may not help but learn a few tricks from Ken.
One thing I learned is that you can reform your life through the experiences of others. It is part of how we grow. This self-help guide resonated with me, especially the body transformation of the author. Without the usage of expletives, I encourage even young adults to seize a copy. I rate Ungraduated by Ken Hannaman 4 out of 4 stars.
I noted nothing to loathe. Given the only two errors I encountered, we have a well-edited book. One highlighted quote stuck with me: “Fear cannot be our guide, for when we allow it to, it will control and rule us, reciprocating more of the same within our lives keeping us shackled.” I recommend this masterpiece to readers fascinated by informative, thought-provoking, and transformative non-fiction guides.
