Re: First impression vs Final impression

When I first saw the book I wanted to read it because I was hoping it would help with understanding the world of health insurance. I learned more than I expected. I thought the author was very thorough in her explanations of medical care, providers, and insurance. I was very pleased with the book and highly recommend it.

I also had the same view about this book but as I progressed on, I found this book very informative and educating. The author did well to inform readers of the necessity of good healthcare. It's content were not made to be fearful.

The book brought important questions that are in the health sector. Heath access can be argued to be a human right. I think the book is a powerful tool that should be spread to as many people as possible so they too can understand its message. I appreciate the author for such an amazing job

After reading it, it turned out to be more than that. This book is a lot of things. It is part memoir, part self-help guide, and part commentary on the state of American healthcare today. This book did not change any of my opinions related to healthcare per se, but it did give me a lot of perspective on how much healthcare has changed in America over the past few decades. Without this book I wouldn't have known.
A layperson would have merely criticized the system and it would have been merely neglected by the readers as another critical approach. But when a doctor criticizes the system and gives the inside information, it is regarded with more value and also it is really useful to the reader. And this is that sort of a book.

The book brought up very many questions that prompted me to look more closely at the insurance I use. When I started reading I definitely did not expect the book to have a real-life impact.
Definitely it has an impact on real life, more than any of the books written related to this field. As you said, many people rely on healthcare system and insurances without a proper knowledge about them. This book is a great source of information for the majority of the society who are less informed but believe that they are well informed.

This book opened my eyes to the importance of health insurance (something that is taken very lightly in my part of the world).
Apart from writing a purely technical book, the author has included bits of her life, both as a doctor and a patient, making it pretty much easy for the reader to relate the information to their own selves. Some will not get the complete picture when they are overwhelmed with technical stuff, but when the details are coupled with real life experiences many will get the complete picture.

I actually thought that the author intends on showing us the secretive agenda behind health care or probably ridiculing how the healthcare insurance has turned into a bad business. But, gladly surviving the business of health care is much more than than.

From the first read of the title, I get the impression that the book is about the dos and don'ts of the healthcare system. Based on the evoked thoughts that we have I guess it is safe to say that the title was strategically named as such to get the readers to be curious and gravitate to the book.

I think that I expected the information to be real and accurate. The author did just that. I expecet that she will talk about choosing the right insurance, and there is a chapter about that in the book. So, yes, my first impression is the same as the final one.

I agree. Though a large part of the book is dedicated for the explanations regarding life insurancs, the author has not forgot to touch many important areas related to medical care, making this book a very important handbook for any consumer of healthcare services.

I do not think that the author intended to make the readers afraid of the possible pitfalls in healthcare system, but to be aware and make sure that they will get a good service from the service providers. Yes, it is a good book with nice content related to many fields in general medicine.

You are correct. Good healthcare service is a human right and all should have the necessary access to good and quality healthcare. For that knowledge related to the subject is an important thing and this book does a great service as a source of information for that purpose.

The author could have just ridiculed the system, but it would have ended with bad consequences, making the readers distrustful about the healthcare system. But healthcare is a necessity and going away from that will do more harm than any good. So the reader chose to make the readers aware about it, so they can get the services without being fooled by the cunning insurance agents.

Yes, by including the term 'business' in the title, the author made me curious about the content of the book. It could have gone either way, a book written for the healthcare providers or the consumers. But at the end it proved as a valuable source of information for both parties.

I too think that the author has done a fair job for the insurance companies as well. Though she did not advertise any single insurance company, she provided necessary tips for the reader to consider when choosing the correct insurance company. It is a guidance for the insurance companies as well to understand what aspects has to be maintained and what to be developed further to give a better customer care.
