I like the idea of a modern version, I think it could incorporate issues we are facing as a society today to teach lessons. I'm not sure how I feel about the gender swap.

I understand what some people mean by being concerned about playing with a classic, but nevertheless I would be interesting in seeing how this role reversal in a modern setting plays out and comes together.

There's a novel called Wide Sargasso Sea by a 19th century Caribbean author named Jean Rhys. It's held in high regard and it's required reading in many Caribbean literature courses.
It has some relation to Jane Eyre but I don't know exactly what it is, since I've read neither. Something about an exploration of one of the characters.
Since you guys have mentioned modern day retellings, I thought I would mention this.

Wow, I had no idea how badly I wanted a sapphic retelling of Jane Eyre until I saw this post! I absolutely love Jane Eyre and wlw stories, so this makes total sense to me.

Wow another Jane Eyre book. First of all I just want to say that I am a fan of Charlotte Bronte.

I think it would be nice, even because since the genders are reversed the characters wouldn't be able to be exactly the same when it comes to personality and character development. Most modern takes of classic novels just put the same story but in the future, so this could actually become a good book on it's on instead of something that only relies on the original story.

I like the idea of a modern day Jane Eyre, but I am unsure of the gender swtich. I don't think it would translate to the same story that it is, especially in today's cultural climate. Unless some personality traits and such were changed, I don't think the story would be well recieved.

Interesting idea, Jane Eyre is one of the first book that started my love of reading. I think a role reversal would be very applicable to today's society.

Fascinating concept: Jane Eyre was among the first books that I ever loved to read. In today's world, I believe a role reversal would be highly relevant.
