When we read those books in school, I never enjoyed them. As an adult, I would like to revisit them and learn to appreciate them. Any pointers for someone who is used to reading murder mysteries and YA Fiction?

I've red this book when I was a little boy and loved it.
What a wonderful event to have made a reality show

I read this book last year, and it’s amazing. Initially I was a bit distracted by all the technical details of fishing, but as the story progresses the mood turns more gray and gets really interesting. I can read the book again and I am sure I will have a different take on the story.

For some reason I find "The old man and the sea" an overrated story. It has a very high standard but not as high as some of the classics that are usually presented side by side with this one. There seems to be a lot of unexplored themes. Considering that Hemingway was symbolically portraying his life, he could have added a lot more symbolic details.
In any case, it's a really good book.
To read or not to read? That's not even a question!

This is a classic American novella that unfortunately many high school readers do not “get.” I think the symbolism goes way over their heads. I do not blame the kids, they are intelligent enough. It is a different era and reading the classics do not appeal to them. They want instant feedback and gratification via online mediums.

I read this book about 10 years back. At the time, I didn't find it interesting not because it isn't a nice book but because I didn't like the sad events or unfair events that happened in the book. Hopefully, I'd read again and view it in a different light this time. It's a book I can never forget.

Hemmingway is honest one of the best authors because of his sentence structure and rhythm, he is defiantly on my reading list and this story is high in the list.

I just read this book for the first time, and it makes me want to be a sure as Santiago. He is a fisherman, completely and undoubtedly.

One thing I've loved is learning about Hemmingway's history and how it affects his writing. For any fans near Key West, I highly recommend visiting the Hemmingway House/Museum. Unless you're allergic to cats. There are so many roaming the beautiful property.

This is the only Hemingway book I've read, but I have fallen in love with his writing style and am hungry for more. It went by far too quickly. I love how character-driven of a story The Old Man and the Sea is, and how attached to the cast (especially Santiago) I became in so few pages. This novel doesn't precisely cheer me up, but it does possess a certain bittersweetness that leaves me feeling more optimistic and satisfied than heartbroken and disappointed. As a reader, I share in the old man's sense of accomplishment and the boy's of relief.

I read this book when I was at high school. Although I enjoy classics in general, this book was one of the most boring novels I've ever read.
