Lessons to be learned from All the Light We Cannot See? *SPOILERS*

Post by Thea Frederick »

I read All the Light We Cannot See and I really liked it up until when Warner dies. That part was hard for me because the books seemed to have such a climax and then after his death and his separation from Marie Laure the climax seemed to just sort of deflate. But up until then I had been really enjoying it, it was a very gripping novel and Mary Laures innocence was very beautiful. But throughout the novel I seemed to sense the theme of defiled innocence. Such as Warner’s sister being raped, Marie Laure having an affair (or at least it seems that she did because it didn’t mention her actually marrying the man she had a child with) and the death of the little girl with the red cloak and I just had a hard time with all that. It just seemed like there were a lot of good plots and messages going but they seemed to kind of fall apart at the end. I mean, don’t get me wrong, there were certainly some very poignant and important moments such as Volkheimer’s sacrificial behavior towards Warner, Warner‘s goodness, Marie Laures innocence etc. But I just had a hard time understanding why people thought it was so good.
Any insight?

This book pictured the war situation so realistic that I could not finish it. The suffering was just too much. I mean it as a compliment to the author, not as critique.

Reading books is cool thing. In general, students and students do not understand this. To get them interested, you can recommend Pdf mania with free books that you can easily download. You can read more. I hope you'll take my advice. By the way, there are a lot of books on the site, so I'm sure you'll find something for yourself.

Warner dying was anticlimactical. Still, I love the book. Its narration is so beautiful that I cannot look beyond narrative to criticize the plot.

Absolutely beautiful book. The Netflix adaptation is wonderful, too. Although they have changed quite a lot from the book.

This book is one of my favourite of all time. I'm now watching the series on Netflix and revisiting all the characters again is inspiring me to read it again!
